AMG Engineers Responding to Landslip Claims on North East Coast
22/04/2008
AMG has been instructed to deal with a number of landslip claims on the North Yorkshire coast after thousands of tons of earth slipped away into the sea, leaving properties precariously balanced on the cliff edge.
The landslip at Knipe Point near Scarborough is not believed to be due to coastal erosion, however the precise cause has yet to be determined.
Commented Frazer Fletcher, Director of Engineering Services at AMG, “We are dealing with a number of claims from various Insurers for properties which are in danger from this landslip. A number of the homeowners have already been advised to remove their contents and to move out as it is considered to be too dangerous to remain. We are actively working to determine the cause of the landslip and to consider whether any remedy is available. At this stage, the most likely causes are believed to be deforestation, a leak from a local reservoir or road works in the vicinity. The scale of slippage is extensive and we fear that a number of properties will not be able to be saved. We are in close contact with our Insurer Clients and are also in touch with the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters to check which other adjusting firms are involved and to agree a common approach. This must have been a frightening experience for the residents involved and we are doing all we can to assist them”.
