Special Investigation - Fraud

Fraudulent and dishonest claims are a major problem for the insurance industry. The Insurance Fraud Bureau has stated that bogus and inflated insurance claims cost the UK insurance industry over £1.6 billion a year and this can add 5% to every policyholder’s premiums. In line with the insurance industry, we at Merlin agree that the policyholder should not be paying for fraudulent claims.

We screen every claim for fraud from notification to conclusion, whilst at the same time ensuring we meet with all regulatory rules and bring genuine claims to a swift resolution. Any potentially fraudulent claims are dealt with by Merlin’s Special Investigation Unit, which consists of people who are all specialist investigators in the area of fraud. These Investigators do not carry out any other adjusting work leaving them able to concentrate on counter fraud investigation and bringing about the correct resolution of claims.

In one month for every £1 insurers spent on fees Merlin saved them £11 through successfully identifying fraudulent claims
